The recent changes improved a lot some models (i.e. AUS) but caused a performance regression in others (i.e. USA). This is now solved by a better parallelization of the prefiltering. The speedup in the slowest task is 62x, and 12x overall.
The total runtime in preclassical is 205 seconds vs 2433 seconds.
