I already had played around with this, so I figured I'd open the PR to aid discussion around the feature, rather than waiting for the issue to be looked at first.
I would love any feedback about the approach or how you would generally document and test this. I didn't see any similar docs or tests for the existing functionality, but perhaps I missed them.
