Release v1.1.0

This version contains many features built by the community! Probably the largest of these efforts has been multi-language support, developed by @daviirodrig, @zHonys and @akien-mga, as well as the many contributors who helped translating their own languages (thank you to @dekotale, @rschmaelzle, @jasminedevv, @EcSolticia, @wallace-uozato, and @jd-develop !!)

You can also download this release on Itch.io

Currently supported languages as of this release are English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, and Bengali.

Version 1.1.0 also includes the following features and bugfixes (listed along with their contributors if applicable):

  • Controls can now be rebound in the settings (@TuTiuTe)
  • Mouse sensitivity and invert-y settings
  • Joypad deadzone settings
  • Support for the Meta Quest VR platform (@dsnopek)
  • Update to Godot v4.4 (@dsnopek)
  • Language can be selected on the main menu and anywhere in the museum lobby
  • Support for web export (@dsnopek)
  • Support for webXR (@dsnopek)
  • You can use a virtual keyboard at the search terminal in VR (@dsnopek)
  • Many CI improvements! (@dsnopek @cassidyjames)
  • Add non-latin fonts

The Web and Quest versions will be published soon in an easier to access place. You can test these versions by downloading them from the release and either sideloading (for the quest version), or hosting locally (for the web version).

Release v1.0.1

This version fixes some issues that people spotted after release! v1.0.1 has 5 contributors on it now!! Thank you so so much to everyone who's been helping out :)

You can download the Museum of All Things on Itch.io!

Changes from v1.0.0:

  • Use physical keybinds instead of soft keybinds, to support other keyboard layouts (thank you @akien-mga !)
  • Caps the number of wikimedia commons images that can be loaded into an exhibit at 2500
  • Fix the clear cache button in the data menu
  • Keep exhibits relatively close to the origin-- this fixes a bug that would cause collisions to break after playing for a while
  • Footstep player uses polyphonic stream player (thanks @arcaneenergy !)
  • Mipmap text labels (not exhibit text plaques yet) and add anisotropic filtering (thanks @stoofin !)

Builds are now generated through github actions, thank you so much for setting that up @cassidyjames ! :)

There is a VR version of this release below, MuseumOfAllThings_OpenXR.exe and MuseumOfAllThings_Linux_OpenXR.x86_64. This requires OpenXR and a connected VR headset (does not support Quest; I've tested with the Oculus Rift though). Otherwise, choose the release that matches your platform.

In VR, you can rotate your view with the right controller's stick, and you can move by pressing left controller's trigger and aiming to teleport. I am working on including menus in VR that will instruct you on the controls and also allow you to use direct movement instead of teleportation.

There is an OSX version attached; this is signed with an ad-hoc key and will require you to make a security exception to run. For the game's release I hope to acquire a developer key so this is not necessary.

Release v1.0.0

The big initial release version! :) Updates will still come in the future.

You can now find the Museum of All Things on Itch.io!

Changes from v0.4.0:

  • Adds music and ambient sound, created by Willow Wolf from Neomoon
  • Adds v-sync setting
  • Adds volume settings
  • Adjusts walking speed; adds sprint (shift)
  • VR version automatically quits w/ popup when a VR headset is not found
  • Cache size control is more efficient now (and data settings measure cache in separate thread)
  • Fixes a bug where hallways did not have collisions on their ceiling
  • Settings are reorganized into tabs by category
  • Images are always mipmapped
  • The title screen fades in with the logo and music

v0.4.0 Pre-release
Pre-release

Beta v0.4.0

This is a (hopefully less buggy) pre-release beta, with a mostly functional version of the museum.

Changes from 0.3.1:

  • Adds the Search pavilion, where you can find a specific exhibit or a random exhibit using Wikipedia's search API.
  • Adds sound, currently just footsteps.
  • Adds an optional CRT post-processing effect
  • Adds automatic cache management which will automatically delete part of the cache if it exceeds 4GB
  • Fixes some visual and logical bugs when moving between exhibits
  • There is a new information desk at the entrance of the museum
  • The backtick/~ key can be used to toggle FPS counter
  • Fixes link-parsing errors in some exhibits
  • New logo to match project homepage
  • Prevent planters from overlapping doors
  • Larger text on subtitle plates
  • Update lobby signage to match color scheme of project homepage
  • Add maps to the lobby
  • Fix rendering of images on walls so that they are shown properly in reflections
  • Probably a couple other little things I forgot

v0.3.1 Pre-release
Pre-release

Beta v0.3.1

This is a (hopefully less buggy) pre-release beta, with a mostly functional version of the museum.

Changes from 0.2.0:

  • New, significantly larger lobby. Featured exhibits are divided by topic, marked by signs.
  • Added plants to the museum. These decorate the lobby and can appear in exhibits.
  • Expanded graphical settings with render scale, SSIL, and ambient light level options.
  • Improved menu navigation (fixes some bugs between controller and keyboard+mouse versions)

Changes from 0.3.0:

  • Hide a work-in-progress feature I accidentally committed, oops

There is a VR version of this release below, "MuseumOfAllThings_OpenXR.exe". This requires OpenXR and a connected VR headset (does not support Quest; I've tested with the Oculus Rift though). Otherwise, choose the release that matches your platform.

v0.2.0 Pre-release
Pre-release

Beta v0.2.0

This is a buggy pre-release beta, with a mostly functional version of the museum.

Changes from 0.1.0

  • Implemented threading to reduce performance hit when loading exhibits
  • Add "Clear Cache" button to settings menu to clear cached data and images from wikipedia/wikimedia commons
  • Fetch wikimedia commons gallery in addition to wikimedia commons category to populate exhibits; leads to larger exhibits
  • Multiple styles of wall-mounted images -- on a wooden plaque, marble plaque, and directly on the wall with a text plate beneath

I am also packaging a VR version with this release. You must have OpenXR enabled on your machine in order to use this-- the program will not work if you do not have an OpenXR provider or if your VR headset is not plugged in. I have only tested with Oculus.

In VR, you can rotate your view with the right controller's stick, and you can move by pressing left controller's trigger and aiming to teleport. I am working on including menus in VR that will instruct you on the controls and also allow you to use direct movement instead of teleportation.

v0.1.0 Pre-release
Pre-release

Beta 0.1.0

This is a buggy pre-release beta, with a mostly functional version of the museum. There are some things that need to be changed still (like the project title, which is called "Wikipedia Museum" in github and "The Museum of All Things" in the game).

If you run into bugs on this version, I would appreciate if you DM me or file an issue on this repo.

This release does not include a VR version, but once recent features are made compatible with VR I'll issue another release.
