AFE (analog front end)

Add here ideas and suggestions about AFE section. Multiple AFEs are proposed to address various functionality and each of them represents separate piggyback that is pluggable on the main PCB (where is DBE and power section located).

Input protection

Analog filtering, buffering, gain adjustment

ADC

Thermocouple sensors requires high resolution ADC (e.g. 18-bit and more). Sampling rate is not so critical (e.g. below 1 KSPS). Power analyzer requires simultaneous conversion. We're looking for sampling rate between 10 KSPS to 500 KSPS per channel. Data logging should also benefit from simultaneous conversion (e.g. when power or energy is measured for battery, PV cells testing, etc.) Multichannel simultaneous ADC contenders comes from TI, Analog and Maxim:
