About Us

The Sustainable Building Initiative (SBI) is a student-led consultancy at the University of Texas at Austin. We unite students from diverse academic backgrounds—including engineering, business, architecture, and liberal arts—to function as a single, cohesive company. Our mission is to solve real-world infrastructure challenges by partnering with clients to design, develop, and engineer innovative sustainable building projects.

This GitHub organization hosts the projects and tools developed by our Tech Department.

The SBI Tech Department

Our Tech Department architects and implements the technological framework that powers our internal and external operations. Employing enterprise methodologies, we create and integrate advanced tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of every department. We work to deliver exceptional technological value that supports our teams, our clients, and our mission.

🌐 website The official source code for the utsbi.org public-facing website, built to showcase our projects, team, and mission.
🚀 portal The central SBI user portal designed for our members and clients to manage projects, track progress, and facilitate collaboration.
🤖 discord-bot A custom utility bot for our internal Discord server, designed to streamline communication, automate tasks, and integrate our workflows.
✉️ email-automation-system A custom automation system that processes data from Google Sheets to manage and send templated email responses, improving our operational efficiency.
⚙️ .github Organization-wide GitHub configurations, templates, and documentation standards for consistent development practices across all repositories.

Contributing

SBI is a collaborative organization, and we welcome contributions from our members. If you are a member of the SBI Tech Department, please refer to our internal files for each repository for specific guidelines on how to contribute.

General Guidelines:

  1. Create a new branch for your feature or bug fix (git checkout -b feature/your-feature-name)
  2. Commit your changes with clear, descriptive messages
  3. Push your branch and submit a pull request with a detailed description of your changes
  4. Review process will be conducted by the Tech Department leads
