Announcements: How to
The Vega Strike Development Team maintains a presence on various social media platforms in order to do announcements. These are all documented in Our Social Media Account Common Name issue. However that just links to the accounts and can be cumbersome to follow. The below is a better accounting of how the team does its announcements, ordering, etc.
Before any posts occur, create a blog entry for the Vega Strike website using the PR process. This will serve as the central point of the entire announcement process, and allow the community to review the announcement prior to anything being posted.
NOTE: Not every post on the website will become a full announcement.
Once the PR has been approved and merged, then the rest of the announcement process can continue, and starts with the Vega Strike Forum where the majority of our users currently resides (at least historically).
We run announcements on quite a few social media properties:
- Vega Strike Forums
- MeWe
- PlusPora
- YouTube
See below for appropriate processes for each platform.
NOTE: It is acceptable to do a smaller summary and then link to the a bigger announcement instead of posting the same information on each site. Everything, however, should link back to the original blog post.
The VS Forums is the first place that any announcement should occur. At least historically this is the fastest way to reach the majority of our users. The post should go under an appropriate section (Engine Development for the core engine, Content Development for VS:UtCS) but should be marked as a global announcement so that all users see it.
Vega Strike has a presence in two sections on Facebook. Posts are done, as appropriate, to both sections.
Post to https://www.facebook.com/VegaStrike-188522714499479/.
Post to https://www.facebook.com/VSUponTheColdestSea/.
We maintain two Twitter Accounts. These posts should be summarized per Twitter's limits and link to the main page.
It is heavily advised that users use Twitter's TweetDeck feature to manage these accounts. This provides some oversight, and gives the ability to stage posts and then mark them as ready to be released. It also allows all the accounts to be seen at the same time, making it easier to post on the accounts.
Vega Strike has a presence in two sections on MeWe. Posts are done, as appropriate, to both sections.
PlusPora, and Diaspore by extension, doesn't do groups like most other social media sites. Instead, things are linked by Hashtag. Please use the following Hashtags as appropriate when making announcements:
#gaming #open-source #linux #vegastrike #vegastrikegaming #vs-uponthecoldestsea
We don't currently post announcements to YouTube at this time. We, should, establish a protocol for doing so but as it's more involved than simply linking text posts around it's not presently in the list.
