Proposal Template for GSoC 2018

General Guidelines

• Name of the Women's P2P project for which you are applying.
• Are you clear on the problem statement?
• Github handle and email to reach out to you during the proposal review period
• What do you plan to accomplish over this summer for this project? Please give a clear description of the goal, Milestone, and Timeline. Please give us a proper timeline since GSoC is a paid internship and we expect you to work full time on the project.
• Describe any plans you have over the time period of GSOC (including the community bonding period) in addition to GSoC, such as classes, a summer job, vacation plans, master's thesis, etc.
• Please provide a description of your expertise for the given skill set for the project you have chosen.

Proposal Content Guidelines

All project proposals need to be mindful of key issues affecting women and include specific remedies for:

• Privacy and Safety Concerns:

• • Options for anonymity, optional location tagging, etc.

• Language differences

• "Onramps" to overcome barriers to connectivity:

• • Illiteracy (consider voice)
• • Computer access (In many countries, women will be get information and send messages using "alternative" means such as:
• • • Brick phones / SMS
• • • Basic android phones (a group of women may share a single phone)
• • • Radio (both FM and ham radio networks)
• • • In person / word of mouth (in markets, refugee camps, seed coops and other microfinance groups) Despite being non-digital networks, these in-person women's networks have stopped wars, elected leaders, and should be included.

Be sure to include with your proposals:

• Wireframes and other visual schemas
• Similar examples from your research, if applicable
• Links to any existing tools (such as existing ictd applications) you may integrate with your project
