CSET is a research center at Georgetown University that provides decision-makers with data-driven analysis on the security implications of emerging technologies. As a non-partisan organization, we produce rigorous, evidence-based, cross-functional analysis on emerging technology issues. We seek to expose our assumptions, follow the data, and serve as trusted advisors to policymakers. Our data scientists collaborate closely with analysts to gather, process and interpret data at scale, including foreign-language and technical materials from diverse sources.
CSET produces evidence-driven analysis in a variety of forms, from published reports and expert testimony to interactive graphics. Our key areas of inquiry are the foundations of artificial intelligence — such as talent, data, and computational power — as well as how AI can be used in national security settings. We also research other areas of emerging tech, including biotechnology.
Our research often incorporates machine learning, data analysis, data visualization, and other forms of analytical and software support.
The Emerging Technology Observatory is a free public platform for data and insight on critical emerging technology issues. Building on CSET’s deep data and analytic capabilities, we transform emerging tech information from diverse sources into accessible tools and resources — empowering you to analyze, communicate, and act with data-driven confidence.
CSET's data science team has produced a number of data-driven research projects. The goal of these data projects is to enable analysis at CSET, and when appropriate, release useful datasets to the public so researchers can pursue their own analytical work.
