Meeting Notes:

Day 1: July 15, 2025: PMIx ASC 25Q3

  • SC25 BoF request
    • Plan to give brief update (last BoF 3yrs ago)
    • Next generation of work driven by scheduling aspects (e.g., NERSC, TUM, etc.), leverage pmix/prte to solve (main focus being this dynamic environment issue). Generate discussion on experiences and any gaps/areas for future work.
      • Isaias:  We can also include their experience/work on dynamic environments if using SLURM
    • Open discussion from community, working group highlights
  • Working Groups Updates:
    • IAWG (Ken R./Dave Solt)
      • Ken gave brief update on WG member
      • Ken will post updated Zoom, continue working on pmix-examples, etc.
    • Dynamic/Tools (Isaias Compres)
      • Discussions related to collection of performance/activity data.  (See PR discussion later for updates on that)
      • Gathering perf data with minimal user effort, interposing at runtime/system levels to try and do this is more automated fashion
      • Much of work in library, some PRs related to Standard
      • Dynamic workflows involving WLM, needing some application feedback for online data to help with decisions on scheduling and resource mgmt. Distinction being online fashion and need to keep overheads lower to avoid impacting application performance.
      • Need to review MPI 5.0 for aspects related to MPI Sessions for details related to dynamic processes, which involves scheduler + process mgrs.
        • Ken: Likely not a lot of change regarding dynamics in MPI 5.0, as much of the focus was on ABI. The MPI “next” (v6.0) is where dynamics would appear.
      • Still meeting at same timeslot, 1st Wed of month @ 5pm Berlin TZ (Zoom - see wiki)
  • PMIx Standard PRs for discussion/review:
  • Release planning
  • Other/Open discussion
    • Remarks - stable state in Standard is not a bad thing, and v6.0 can be good target for stable
    • Review governance for AMD nomination
  • Final remarks
    • Voting link will be posted for post-meeting vote, results sent on Thursday (7/17/2025)
    • Cancel Meeting Day 2, (7/17/2025)

Day 2 (CANCELLED): July 17, 2025: PMIx ASC 25Q3

UPDATE (21jul2025): Voting Results
