Action Strategy Game (ASG) outline
This could qualify as a new game genre, I think.
Mostly as a touchscreen game...
Four characters in your party, various opponents, looks like FF6, etc.
You swipe the characters around the screen according to their abilities. Their range/placement is similar to how an RTS would play out, in that each is effective a certain way depending on their ranges, abilities, strength etc.
There are no "turns" as an RPG. Just how fast you make decisions and how accurate you are. Must cripple spammers though. Maybe hits are much lower % damage than a typical RPG/RTS. You could, of course just throw out as many hits as you can quickly, but out-thinking that will always fuck over a spammer. However, spamming will be made to look really pretty...like lots of twinkly shots, etc. So aesthetically, we are encouraging spammers to throw lots of weak but pretty attacks. But to win against anyone who's playing even close to the right way, you've got to play properly too. (I'm evil.)
Characters would be Pokemon-like in that you collect a bunch and can assemble your team however you like. Characters can level up.
Give it a rock star/mercenary/superteam feel, to personalize and make it fun.
Should be good for PvP, maybe like the online Pokemon game people would have always dreamed of.
Chars have frontal attack, retreat/block moves by moving them back away from the fight again. Special moves based on double-taps. Aerial moves by tossing them up, affect group but leave them open to fire for a second.
Arranging your team in a specific pattern if the enemy doesn't prevent it will activate a super move.
Stages have obstacles and differing shapes to force players to adopt new strategies.
Could have lots of modes regarding endless waves/practice even puzzle modes if that makes sense. I like MK's challenge towers where its basically normal fights but some weird thing changes battle conditions thus forcing new tactics.
Adventure mode like an RPG where your entire team is on the field together and you move each individually.
When chars move, they start running to chase your moving finger. When you lift finger off screen, they leap into that position. Looks cool, and rewards decisive action. Because them chasing your finger takes longer to move than the leaping animation.
