WP1.2 Coordination Meeting June 13, 2019
Meeting Report WP1.2 ‘Modelica library for MPC’
Subject: WP1.2
Date: 13-06-2019
Location: Skype for Business
Minutes taken by: Lieve Helsen (KU Leuven)
Company/Organisation Participant
KU Leuven Lieve Helsen (WP Leader)
KU Leuven Filip Jorissen
KU Leuven Jan Drgona
KU Leuven Javier Arroyo (now @ LBNL)
SDU Christian Veje
SDU Konstantin
SDU Toa Yang
SDU Valentin
LBNL David Blum
LBNL Michael Wetter
PNNL Sen Huang
PNNL Chen Yan
Toa: will perform the review of Valentin’s model and the development of the SDU emulator
Sen: internal review is going on, then it will be sent to Iago
Javier: air-based multi-zone model not yet fully BOP-TEST ready, but it works with BOP-TEST
Dave modified the review checklist according to the suggestions made in Aachen, list of data needed (requirements and representation) to calculate the KPIs and data needed for forecast (Action Javier & Dave to finalize)
Michael: no longer needed to copy from weather files manually (Buildings Library), Great news!
Yan: IAQ, recommended CO2 values (Thresholds) by ASHRAE 62.1-2016, ASHRAE G36-2018 Table 3.1.1.3: values based on density translated in space type, e.g. office: 894 ppm, ambient CO2 concentration is 400 ppm. How to evaluate? We will use the time above threshold as evaluation criteria, thus expressed in ppm-hours CO2. Average and peak value both have disadvantages. If building with multiple zones, then calculate the value for each zone. How to calculate the CO2 concentration in a zone?
IDEAS: yes included, based on occupancy and ventilation rates
Buildings: inject in Fluid Connector
IBPSA: trace substance flow source, needs to be related to number of occupants and activity level. IDEAS can be used as inspiration for common methodology (input: latent and sensible heat gain per person), to be treated in WP1.1
Dave and Javier worked on defining the way of representing data for a test-case and on introducing and retrieving this data into and from the test-case fmu, see repository. Enumeration is implemented in the signal exchange block for the signal tagging that enables KPI calculation. Finally, a first proposal for custom KPIs calculation ability has been introduced.
LBNL submitted a proposal to DoE for a 3-years project to continue the BOP-TEST work. External reviewer comments were mainly positive, responded, defended and discussed. Now waiting for final discussion. Oakridge National Lab is brought on-board (lab setups to test HVAC equipment, 2-stories office test building well equipped with sensors to be used as test case and associated calibration)
MPC Template is ready to be used. New repository within IBPSA for MPC library. What are the requirements for these models? How do we proceed here? Filip, Dave and Sen organize a separate call on this, and we organize a dedicated break-out session on this topic in Rome.
MPC review paper is ready for internal review (journal submission): Michael gave feedback to Dave who is processing this. Lieve wants to review but is hyper-busy these weeks/months.
a. IEA Annex on Smart buildings and urban districts: proposal to ExCo, focus is on grey-box models (data-driven, but also hybrid aspects), better ways to generate these models, for MPC, FDD, maintenance, retrofit analysis … LBNL wants to participate but still defining the contribution and looking for DoE support. SDU mentions that MPC task has not yet a leader, Dave interested? Not as a leader, rather as a contributor.
b. Lieve shares information about Ventacity (Annie Mroz) = building controls start up in California, in the early stages of developing a cloud-based plug and play controls platform and have a long term goal of implementing MPC in their platform. Dave and Michael look into this.
c. Next WP1.2 progress meeting: IBO Boulder first draft agenda break-out sessions, next skype meeting August 13
d. Rome meeting: Lieve won’t be available on Saturday August 31, Dave acts as stand-inn
For our memory, break-out topics Rome:
- MPC Library: how to proceed? (Dave, Filip, Sen)
