This project required the use of de novo DNA assembly. This project involved the use of two assembly softwares namely, SPAdes and SOAPdenovo
There are hardly any processes in bioinformatics that are as resource and time intensive as genome assembly. This is also the most crucial step of the process as all downstream steps are dependent on the quality of the assembly. A poor assembly quality will definitely lead to poor results.
SPAdes an assembler uses trimmed reads to create bigger scaffolds, is used both for single cell and standard assembly.
SOAPdenovo is a short read assembly software used to build a de novo assemblies, specifically designed for Illumina short reads.
